Confucianism inModern China's Family Relationships
Confucianism was found by Confucius in 551B.C. in China. It was widely spread for next many thousand years and now it became almost life it self for Chinese people. However, due to China’s modernization and nation wide conflicts with foreign power for past few hundred years, number of schools that teach confucianism and officially practiced rate decreased significantly. But it is now coming back to China. As economy grew in China, people tend to become more and more self centered. So many Chinese parents are now sending their kids to Confucius schools in order to make them learn about their own Chinese culture, literature, and respects towards other people. Also, rapid growth of Chinese economy made parents affordable to pay for Chinese traditional class (Confucianism schools). Even if they do not understand what it means, they do understand that they have to treat elders with respect and classmates with care. For parents, Confucianism is a way to raise obedient children who won't forget their own culture.
However, for women, even women rights are guaranteed by the law, there are still some indirect segregation. Women in China are usually left at home to take care of house works and raise children. This situation became much worse in 1979 when government in China enforced One-Child Only policy. About 63% of the Chinese population were subjected to this policy. Under this policy, each family are allowed to have one child in order to decrease the population. Due to that, each family is now seeking only male baby. They even aborted the child if it's not a boy.
